Poem: Miracle

I wrote this poem when I was pregnant with my second child.  It’s been a while since then, but this still sums up how I feel about my children.  I’m thinking about them lots today as they are off to school.

Miracle

Alive, you sinuously swim
Fingers brush like fins
Limbs drift in your liquid cocoon
Your pearl-string spine gleams
Eyes closed in dreams
Hands clasping the cord from my womb
\Love flows in those veins
Mixed with nourishment, sustains
Your rollicking heartbeat drum
Grow quickly: your mother,
Your father and brother
Watch, waiting for you to come
